I attended the April 10th march for immigrant rights. They say there were about 20,000 people. It was nice to see many people there that I knew. Rudy Lopez from the Conjunto Heritage Taller was there, he even came out on TV! ¡No que no! Los Padrinos' good friends Pochimex performed – they were great! (Pochimex is short for Pocho, Chicano, y Mexicano)  I was impressed by the number of young people that were there (high school and college aged kids) No, they didn't just look for an excuse to skip school! the event was held at 5pm in the afternoon.  I hope and pray that these young people never forget where they came from and that this event was an opportunity to reflect on their own heritage as Americans whose parents or grandparents came from different countries. I am grateful that my grandparents (from Guanajuato) came to this country, and I feel that I honor them by trying to maintain spanish (aunque sometimes se me olvidan the words en español) and conjunto music.  If Los Padrinos are about anything we are about maintaining the culture and being ambassadors of conjuntismo! Somos puros Texicanos! Like the words to that Pochimex song "Yo soy Tejano y mexicano, tengo orgullo de donde soy…" Amen to that! ¡Viva America, viva la raza!

Chinese Food

Today I went to a Chinese restaurant to eat lunch. As I was paying for my meal I noticed a picture of all these chinitos gathered around for their group photo. The group was the Chinese American Cuisine Association or CACA for short. I kind of giggled but I didn't have the heart to tell the lady at the register what was so funny. She was probably a very proud member of CACA, maybe even the founder! Los pobres don't realize what that means in spanish – which is why it was pretty hilarious. So those of you in Chicago please do not start the Chicago Area Conjunto Association.  Imagine in Honduras a group called Sindicato Hondureño de Ingenieros Telefonicos (SHIT). Sure we can laugh, but they would be clueless as to why all these americanos are always so happy around them. Oh and another thing, I am glad we say puro conjunto, conjunto puro; and not something else like Pura Onda, Onda Pura – that stinks!

First of all, thanks to everyone who has been purchasing our latest cd, "Puro Gallo" especially to the artist Joe L. Lopez from Gallista Gallery  for all his creativity and hard work.  About two weeks ago we had a big problemo…we ran out of EVERYTHING! (Except business cards!).  We were all anxious about it, especially our Vice-President of Publicity and Marketing Virginia and her husband Peter(the Vice-Vice President). Our President of Marketing, Pauline Martinez [Martin's mom] was not too worried, she was happy that she didn't have to carry so much stuff.  Our fan club president, Mr. Santillan, (as well as Peter and Virgina, and Ray's wife, Helen) chipped in to help. Needless to say, we have ordered cds of Puro Gallo and Fe, Familia, y Tradicion! We will print up new black and white promos, and order more t-shirts. Thanks for everyone's patience and if you order on line and they tell you they are sold out do not worry, their shipment is coming!
